Toyota: interesting facts

Perhaps the greatest strength of Toyota-brand automobiles is their longevity so, on that note, let’s have a look at some of the stats…

Firstly, in 1966 Toyota launched an unassuming little car they called the Corolla. To this day, it’s a car that tends to get overlooked and ignored – well, not today. Did you know that the humble Toyota Corolla is the fastest-selling car in history? Yep, on average, one Corolla has been sold every 37 seconds since its introduction.

And that’s not all. The Corolla is also the overall best-selling nameplate of all time. Superseding the Volkswagen Type 1 (AKA Beetle!), as of 2013 an unbelievable 30 million Corollas had been sold making it the most successful car ever – maybe now you’ll look a little differently next time you see one chugging along?

Continuing in this vein of longevity, many people claim that Toyotas run forever; this isn’t far from the truth considering eighty per cent of Toyotas sold twenty years ago are still on the road today. Indeed, in Africa, where cars tend to be fixed rather than replaced, Toyotas are the no.1 brand.

Finally, Toyota is a truly world-wide brand with sales in 170 countries and growing!
